Four Chinese characters are inscribed on a huge rock on the mountain top above Qidong in Nanao: Dong Hai Xiong Feng, which translates “Brave Wind of the East Sea.” The inscription commemorates a victory by members of the East Sea Guerilla Force, who were patrolling in a small boat when they discovered a communist force of a dozen or so boats attempting to invade Dongyin in 1956, and drove them off. Looking down from the top of the mountain, you have beautiful views of Nanao Village and Zhongzhu Harbor.
