Daqiu is known as the “island of Formosan deer.” Located north of Beigan, boats are the only options if you wish to visit it. Civilians and soldiers used to live/station there, but with time, people moved out and Daqiu became an island uninhabited by humans. Today, Daqiu is the only such island in Matsu where visitors are allowed.
The island features a 500-meter Daqiu Ecological Hiking Trail. Along it, lovely Formosan deer can be found, in addition to old military facilities. In the summer, it is possible to see terns flying in the sky. Why not visit Daqiu if you are here in Matsu. Its unique natural ecology is simply indelible.
