This is Matsu’s most popular and magnificent temple, as well as the island’s most important religious center. According to early documents, the temple was built in the year of Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty. Its dragon pillars, stone carvings, and divine guardian-reliefs are fine and beautiful. The stone coffin in the main hall is believed to be where Queen of Heaven rests.

Every year, on the queen’s lunar birthday, big celebrations and round-the-town parades are held. In the night, firecrackers are set, lighting up the dark sky. The temple fests are considered major events locally.

Matsu Sword Monument - be sure to take some photos of it

Not far from the temple, there is a high-rising sword monument known as the Sword of Matsu. The monument looks full of force. In the past, to soldiers, it was a symbol of support. Today, it serves as an eye-catching tourist destination.
