2026 Matsu Beishan Sunrise & Hiking Event Kicks Off with Energy!

The “2026 Glimmering Matsu – Sunrise & Hiking Event” is jointly organized by the Matsu National Scenic Area Headquarters, Tourism Administration, MOTC, Beigan Township Office, Beigan Township Council, and the Beigao Garrison Command. The public is invited to head to Beishan (Bishan), the highest peak among Taiwan’s offshore islands, on January 1, 2026, to welcome the first sunrise of the year. Shout out your New Year wishes and goals at the summit, then hike down to Tangqi Sports Field for the flag-raising ceremony, welcoming a vibrant and energetic new year!

Souvenirs will be distributed on-site. There will also be a Drumacue marching drum performance and the “Megaphone Sunrise Shout” activity. Registration for the Megaphone event opens at 12:00 PM on Monday, December 8. Spots are limited—everyone is welcome to join!

Bishan, at 291.7 meters above sea level, is the highest point in Matsu. From its observation platform, visitors can overlook Houwo Village beneath Dawu Mountain, Beigan Airport, Tanghou Beach, the lively Tangqi streets, and nearby islands such as Luoshan, Bangshan, Wuming Island, Qiaotou, Daqiu, and Xiaoqiu. Watching planes take off and land at Beigan Airport against the vast sea and sky creates a postcard-like scene. At dawn, the rising sun paints a breathtaking landscape. During foggy seasons, the mountaintop appears ethereal and dreamlike—like stepping into a fairyland. It is the perfect place to welcome 2026 and a must-visit destination for photography enthusiasts.

During the cross-strait military confrontation period, Beigan was a frontline battlefield. Bishan is dotted with bunkers and military relics, and it remains a strategic military location overseeing the Matsu waters today. Rich in historical heritage and unique tourism value, it is well worth a visit.

After attending the 2025 Matsu New Year’s Eve Party, visitors are encouraged to take a shuttle boat to Beigan and join the 2026 Bishan Sunrise event the next morning!
