2026 Matsu Glimmer Festival
From wartime heritage and Eastern Fujian culture to religious traditions and natural ecology, each of Matsu’s four townships and five islands possesses its own unique charm. This year, through the newly curated “2026 Matsu in a Gentle Light” series of events, travelers are invited to journey deeper into the islands—experiencing Matsu at a slower pace and with a closer connection to the land, and rediscovering its beauty across all four seasons.
“Mazu in Matsu” Festival Series
The first “radiance” of the 2026 Glowing Matsu series begins with “Mazu in Matsu.”
Matsu Tianhou Temple is home to the world’s only sacred site where Mazu is believed to have ascended to heaven. Each year on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, a grand traditional celebration is held to honor the birthday of the Heavenly Holy Mother.
This year, a new divination block (Jiaobei) competition has been added. Participants who throw the most “shengbei” (favorable blocks) will receive a prize of NT$8,888. Visitors are invited to come to Matsu for pilgrimage and blessings, and to experience the light and protection symbolized by Mazu culture.
Glowing Concert
The second “Radiance of Joy” will debut this September, with three “Glowing Concerts” held over three consecutive weekends in Nangan and Beigan.
The performances will feature a mix of folk and pop music, including exciting shows by groups such as the Lamigo Band.
A “Glowing Market” will also be held alongside the concerts, bringing together Matsu’s local delicacies and creative products to create a vibrant island night experience.
In collaboration with UNI Air and Mandarin Airlines, a lucky draw will be held, with the grand prize being round-trip flight tickets to Matsu.
Additional prizes include aircraft models and accommodation vouchers, inviting travelers to visit Matsu at the turn of summer and autumn to enjoy a night of gentle sea breeze and music.
Laser Combat Survival Game
The third “Radiance of Laser” highlights battlefield culture experiences. This year, the Laser Combat Survival Game has been expanded and will run for 10 consecutive days from July 24 to August 2.
In addition to combat gameplay, the event incorporates mission challenges, motivational chants, fixed-point shooting, and geological interpretation, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Matsu’s unique military history within authentic battlefield settings.
Matsu veterans are also invited to return and participate in the battles, with exclusive commemorative gifts provided. The event requires registration—group travelers may apply through travel agencies, while independent travelers can register online.
Welcome the Dawn 2027
The fourth “Radiance of Dawn” symbolizes a brand-new beginning. The Matsu National Scenic Area Administration plans to host a “Welcome the Dawn” event on New Year’s Day 2027.
Visitors will be guided to climb Mount Bi, the highest peak among Matsu’s outlying islands, to greet the first sunrise of the new year—infusing hope and energy into the year ahead, and bringing the “Glowing Matsu” series to a perfect conclusion.
