Distant View of Dahan Stronghold

Dahan Stronghold is located on the western hillside of Nangan and is one of the most iconic underground tunnels and coastal defense sites from Matsu’s wartime era. Carved entirely into solid bedrock, the structure includes firing embrasures, command spaces, sleeping quarters, ammunition rooms, and observation points—illustrating a complete and meticulously planned military defense system. Facing the open sea, the stronghold once bore significant coastal defense duties and still preserves a strong wartime atmosphere today. Walking through the tunnels feels like entering a hidden underground fortress, making it a key site for understanding Matsu’s military culture and defense history.
