About the Shop
This nearly 80-year-old stone house holds a story that began on 15 October 2003.
On that day, I bought a NT$20 sickle and cut a basketful of weeds on the steps in front of the house. I still could not see the true shape of the building—overgrown with tall grasses and trees, some even growing right at the front door.
After a few days, I realised that I could never manage such a massive task on my own. I called my parents, told them the truth, and asked them to come to Matsu to help me restore the old house. The renovation was exhausting, and many people asked, “Why don’t you hire workers?” Because what I wanted to create was something difficult for others to understand. Even my parents did not fully grasp the “beauty of Furen Village” that I kept describing. Yet, they supported me wholeheartedly. To me, that was their way of expressing love.
The journey felt like the path from the village entrance to the old house—steps and turns, wild grass and flowers. Now the house has light and warmth, and I have countless people to thank. Standing before an abandoned stone house lost in weeds, I felt no fear—only determination. The beauty of the stone house is unbelievable: the wooden structure inside was built without a single nail. Geographically, it sits at an advantage, facing Nangan’s Fu’ao Harbour where the little white boats travel between the islands. At night, it offers the most beautiful scenery—starlight, moonlight, and the sound of waves whether you are outdoors or indoors.
Each season carries its own charm: the romance of spring, the passion of summer, the elegance of autumn and the calm of winter. Flowers take turns to bloom, butterflies dance in the air, and birds wander freely.
I hope to craft a “key of happiness” for every guest, gently opening the door to something moving and memorable. Staying in a traditional stone house, embracing the ocean, watching the sunrise, listening to the waves, and enjoying the quiet of the night—this is what awaits you here.
At Furen Homestay, food, accommodation and transport are all convenient, and the beach is just a short walk down the steps. In this natural and beautiful setting, you may rediscover your true inner peace.
