“Iron Fort” is a standalone reef fortress located offshore, accessible only via a long wooden walkway. Once you reach it, the camouflaged bunker offers sweeping views of the ocean. At night, with no light pollution, it becomes one of the best spots to witness Matsu’s famous Blue Tears during the glowing season.
This site was once a key military outpost defending against underwater saboteurs from the mainland. Both the exterior and interior of Iron Fort are open to exploration. Inside the reef, you’ll find narrow tunnels and small hidden rooms that once served as soldiers' living quarters, kitchens, toilets, as well as gun emplacements and firing ports. It’s like wandering through a maze of military history—visitors can truly immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the past.
