Unusual rocks and spectacular sights

Day1｜Departing from Dongyin Zhongzhu Harbor
Dongyin features rich sea-eroded landscapes. Various magnificent coastal formations, paired with the imaginative names and stories given by early residents, create a perfect harmony between scenery and legend.

Transportation

1. Travel to Keelung West Pier No.2 and take the Taima Star/New Taima Ferry to Dongyin (approx. 10 hours).
2. Take UNI Air or Mandarin Airlines to Matsu Nangan Airport, then take a taxi to Fuao Harbor and transfer to the Taima Star for Dongyin.

Fare Information

1. One-way fare: Keelung → Dongyin (Economy): approx. NT$1,050
2. One-way fare: Nangan → Dongyin (Economy): approx. NT$400

Day2｜Nangan Fuao Harbor → Dongju Mengao Harbor

Sea reefs rise with the tides, creating dramatic height variations. When observed from a distance, the terrain resembles a giant serpent twisting through the water, giving rise to the name “Snake Mountain.”

Transportation

1. From Dongyin Zhongzhu Harbor, take the Taima Star/New Taima Ferry to Nangan (approx. 2 hours). After arriving, you may transfer to Juguang Township.
2. Nangan → Juguang ferry: 07:00, 11:00, 14:30
   Ferry departure times from Juguang back to Nangan vary depending on whether Xiju or Dongju is served first in odd or even months. Please refer to on-site port announcements or check official routes and the latest ferry schedules in advance.
   Odd months: West Juguang first, then East Juguang.
   Even months: East Juguang first, then West Juguang.

1. Nangan → Juguang one-way fare: approx. NT$250
2. Dongju → Xiju fare: Full NT$80, Half NT$40
3. Scooter rental: approx. NT$500/day

Day3｜Departing from Nangan Fuao Harbor

1. Nangan is home to the famous Beihai Tunnel. The tunnel, carved entirely by soldiers through solid granite, creates an awe-inspiring combination of rock textures, lighting, and water reflections.
2. Qiugui Mountain Trail features some of Matsu’s most diverse geological formations. The exposed rock walls display colorful layers shaped by military history. Crystal veins can also be found if observed closely.

1. Nangan, the largest island in Matsu, can be explored by taxi or scooter rental.

2. Car rental: approx. NT$2,500–3,000/day

Travel Tips

1. Chunghwa Telecom provides the best mobile reception on the islands.
2. Beihai Tunnel is open to visitors. Depending on tides, the trail may be inaccessible during high tide. Please check the 30-day tide chart before visiting.
