Itinerary Overview
Matsu, a place once known to everyone as a "battlefield," has seen the dust settle as wars have moved far into the past. Stepping onto its land today, one can still seem to feel a trace of the smoke of yesteryear. The ubiquitous tunnels and cannons can still shock descendants with the arduousness of war, allowing them to imagine the hardships of soldiers protecting their country and home in the past.
Day1|Zhongzhu Port (Dongyin) → Yixiantian (Dongyin) → Andong Tunnel (Dongyin) → Donghai Xiongfeng
The military attraction of Yixiantian (One Thread of Sky) features two vertically adjacent cliffs connected by a concrete bridge leading to a military tunnel. The bridge deck is tens of meters above the sea surface, presenting an awe-inspiring sight. However, as the area is still an important military base, the tunnels within the attraction are not open to the public. Andong Tunnel is the result of the arduous construction work by the ROC military brothers in the past, carved out axe by axe. The 30-degree slope and over 400 steps inside the tunnel are a great test of physical strength. The 300-meter-long tunnel was a combat preparedness tunnel used by the troops back then. It has eight openings, and the soldiers' daily lives took place here. The dormitories, assembly hall (Zhongshan Room), ammunition depot, toilets, and the artillery used at the time are completely preserved, creating a mysterious military atmosphere. Reminiscing about the tense civil war between the KMT and the CCP inside the tunnel gives a truly immersive feeling!

Day2|Meng'ao Port → Dapu Stone Inscription (Dongju) → Dongju Island Lighthouse (Dongju) → Secret Mini Bay (Dongju) → Qingfan Port (Xiju) → Xiqiu → Sheshan (Xiju) → Caipu'ao (Xiju)
Caipu'ao is located in the northeast of Xiju Island and is named after the abundant laver (seaweed) produced in the bay. Before the completion of the Qingfan Deep Water Wharf, Caipu'ao was the main port for entering and leaving Xiju in summer. The coastal natural landscape features typical granite cone shapes, with extremely undulating and steep terrain. Granite veins radiate deep into the sea, forming bays of various sizes. Secret Mini Bay, located south of Fuzheng Village, is a new attraction named only in recent years. The road is rugged and difficult to travel, but the landscape is beautiful. Looking from a certain angle, the sea stacks and sea caves offer unlimited room for imagination. Therefore, a folk tale spread that Lü Dongbin and He Xiangu achieved enlightenment here, giving it the other name "Lü He Cliff." Approaching Secret Mini Bay and standing on the beach gazing at the strange rock formations on both sides of the sea is particularly mesmerizing.

Dapu Stone Inscription
The Dapu Stone Inscription was discovered by the ROC military in 1953 and designated as a Grade 3 historic site. The inscription records that during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, Shen Yourong of Xuanzhou captured 69 Japanese pirates alive without losing a single soldier. Dong Yingju of Min (Fujian) inscribed the text here. Local residents further legend that the Dapu Stone Inscription itself is a treasure map; if one can decipher the hints between the lines, they can find treasure. Visitors coming here might want to exercise their brains!

Day3|Fu'ao Harbor → Tunnel 88 (Nangan) → Beihai Tunnel (Nangan) → Dahan Stronghold (Nangan) → Iron Fort (Nangan)
In 1968, based on the strategic guidance of integrated offense and defense and the needs of combat missions, the ROC military, under the tenure of Lieutenant General Lei Kai-hsuan, Commander of the Matsu Defense Command, excavated tunnel piers capable of accommodating landing craft in Nangan, Beigan, Xiju, and Dongyin. This plan was named the "Beihai Project" combat engineering. Nangan Beihai Tunnel is located at a bay near Ren'ai Village. It looks ordinary from the outside, but once inside, one discovers the majestic scale of the entire tunnel engineering, which is truly a world of its own. This "well" (#) shaped tunnel can berth 120 small boats inside and is also known as an underground pier. A ten-minute walk near the Beihai Tunnel leads to a military demonstration stronghold with three levels of tunnels. The various military facilities inside the tunnels are quite complete. It opened in February 2007 as a new attraction connecting to the Beihai Tunnel. Iron Fort is located below the coastal road connecting the west side of Ren'ai Village to Jinsha. It was originally an independent reef protruding from the sea. In the early years, for strategic needs, the ROC military excavated the reef to make it hollow, covered it with concrete bunkers, and established a stronghold here. It stands proudly amidst the raging waves. Glass shards were embedded on the surrounding reefs to prevent mainland frogmen from sneaking in. Although Iron Fort has been abandoned, the stronghold still retains complete defensive works such as underground stone chambers, tunnels, firing ports, gun emplacements, toilets, and rooms. Though small, it has everything needed. The only German Shepherd with a military rank in Matsu was stationed here back in the day. This fort was once an important strategic stronghold and is now open all day for free visits. It is an excellent place to experience the atmosphere of the former battlefield.

Day4|Fu'ao Harbor → Baisha Port (Beigan) → Biyuan Park → War and Peace Memorial Park (Beigan) → Beigan Airport
Biyuan Park features simple trails and viewing facilities. A monument to officers and soldiers who died in the line of duty stands in the park. Built in 1960, it is solemn and dignified, serving as a place for people to pay their respects. It has also become the best outing spot for the military and civilians of Beigan. A ten-minute drive to Dawo Mountain behind Houwo Village leads to the Matsu War and Peace Memorial Park, which covers an area of 38.8 hectares. Planning and design began in 2004, and attractions such as the War and Peace Stronghold 08 Theme Hall, Luobang Mountain Nature Trail, Stronghold 06 Observation Deck, and underground tunnels have been successively built. Walking along the Houwo Village combat readiness road to Dawo Mountain, one can see decommissioned military weapons lining the road, including military trucks, quad-mounted 50-caliber machine guns, self-propelled guns, and tanks, all with explanatory signs. This park combines a microcosm of battlefield landscapes and historical features, displaying the military history of the Matsu area and simulating military positions. It delves deep to utilize Matsu's rich battlefield characteristics and historical background, guiding visitors to experience and feel the tense atmosphere of the "frontline battlefield."
