Matsu boasts endless stunning scenery. To deepen domestic tourism and boost international tourism, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as the Matsu Administration) collaborated with the Tourism Administration's overseas offices in 2022 to invite reporters from Japan's NHK and Italy to visit Matsu, showcasing the archipelago to international tourists through global media coverage. In 2023, reporters from Singapore visited Matsu for an in-depth experience. The reporters' travel news and feature articles about Matsu's unique attractions, published in Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, captured the attention of potential international travelers interested in immersive Matsu tours.
Following the media exposure, travel agencies in Singapore received numerous inquiries about Matsu tours. One such agency, Commonwealth Travel Service Corporation Pte Ltd, launched its inaugural Matsu itinerary, which sold out instantly due to overwhelming demand. After nearly two years of cultivation and anticipation, Matsu finally welcomed its esteemed guests from Singapore on May 5, 2024. This inaugural tour group, consisting of 25 members, is scheduled to arrive in Matsu via Mandarin Airlines. The 5-day 4-night in-depth cross-island itinerary includes signature attractions and experiences on Nangan, Beigan, and Juguang islands.
On the first day, the group visited historical sites on Juguang, including the Dongju Lighthouse and Dapu Inscription. They experienced the Mt. Dongyang Nature Trail, marveled at the mysterious sea-eroded caves of Mysterious Little Bay, and were continuously amazed by Matsu's stunning mountain and ocean landscapes. They deeply felt that Matsu is exceptionally suitable for travelers who enjoy hiking and nature, especially as Matsu offers a serene environment with both mountain and ocean views, unlike Singapore. The tranquil setting allows Singaporean city dwellers to feel a sense of return to nature. Some group members even expressed a desire to stay in Matsu for a month on their next visit to strengthen their hiking skills!
The upcoming itinerary from May 6-9 will take them to the masterfully crafted Beihai Tunnel on Nangan, the Dahan Stronghold, and the Iron Fort standing in the sea, where they will experience the unique war-time scenery. They will also visit Daqiu Beigan to see the Formosan sika deer, travel to the Qinbi Village to admire the beautiful stone houses, and immerse themselves in traditional Mìng-dĕ̤ng culture. The group is also eagerly anticipating the chance to witness the magical Blue Tears phenomenon.
The Matsu Administration stated that this 5-day 4-night in-depth slow travel itinerary is expected to generate over one million TWD in tourism revenue. The main purpose is to allow international tourists to experience that visiting Matsu is not merely about sightseeing but also about immersion and a sense of being touched. The administration hopes that this travel agency's pioneering trip will spark a wave of Singaporean visitors to Matsu. To sustain the enthusiasm, the Matsu Administration continues to invite Singaporean reporters for long stays this year (2024), aiming to reignite the craze through a series of reports. Additionally, they plan to collaborate with the Tourism Administration's overseas offices to invite international media to visit Matsu, continuously increasing Matsu's international exposure and further attracting more global travelers to enjoy the unique island tourism and culinary culture of Matsu.
Matsu tourism activities have commenced since the appearance of Blue Tears in late March. This year (2024), the Matsu Administration's Glimmers in Matsu series of events kicked off with "Mazu in Matsu" at the end of April, with other activities set to begin soon. Everyone is welcome to stay tuned to the official website and Facebook fan page "Matsu Love Party GO" and actively participate in the various series of events.
