“Snake Mountain” is not a mountain, but four islets west of Xiju. In a meandering row, they look like a long snake crouching on the sea. Of all the islands in Matsu’s tern conservation area, Snake Islands are the only ones of their kind in Juguang Township. Whenever the summer arrives, it is possible to watch terns flying in the sky and taking a sand bath on the beach. Bird watchers all love the Snake Islands.
Note: April to October are the terns’ breeding months, and visitors are thus forbidden from shoring the islands. Please be reminded that we should all keep quiet when we visit the islands, so as to avoid disturbing the delicate terns. Please also beware of tidal changes, just to stay safe.
