On the east part of Dongyin, there is a nearly hundred-meter-tall vertical cliff called Lienuyikeng, magnificent and imposing. It is said that during the late Qing years, in coastal Minnan, pirates occupied many islands. One day, they came to Dongyin and killed a fisherman. The fisherman’s wife ran to the cliff and she had nowhere to go. The pirates tried to rape her but she fought on and on. Finally, she jumped off the cliff and died. People mourned over her death and said that she was a chaste woman. The cliff was therefore named Lienuyikeng, literally meaning “the cliff where a chaste lady jumped off.”

Note that the area has strong winds and the land is crooked. Please stay safe.
