Formerly a military base, the park now features an annually-held triathlon
Dawo Mountain in Beigan of Matsu used to be a military base. In 2003, the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration turned it into Taiwan’s first memorial park that advocates peace in replacement of war. The spacious, magnificent park covers 38.8 hectares of land. It is an open-air museum discussing themes such as “war and peace” and “touching memories.”
Due to confidentiality, the strongholds were often named after numerical numbers. Strongholds 6 and 8 by the park are built amid rocks and reefs and the park’s main outdoor exhibition area is situated in Stronghold 8. Stronghold 12 stands between Luoshan and Bangshan.
