Before Zhongzhu Harbor was built, Zhongcheng Gate was essential for soldiers, civilians, and fishermen alike to go in and out of Dongyin. No longer operating as a transport hub, now it is just a nostalgic construction reminiscent of a town arch. The soldier statue at its top indicates that Dongyin was a military base in the past.
Passing by the gate and going up stairs, visitors shall find themselves arriving in Dongyin’s busiest places - Zhongliu and Lehua Villages. The two villages have retained many traditional Mindong houses built with sturdy granites. Some say that this area is “war-zone Jiufen.” Bside the statue at the gate’s top, visitors can enjoy a birds-eye-view of Zhongzhu Harbor.
