A Traditional Settlement in Nangan with Siwei’s Ocean Views

Traveling north from Matsu Village to the westernmost tip of Nangan Island, known as "Xi Wei" (West End), lies one of Nangan's best-preserved villages. The former office of Lin Yihe, a legendary figure in Matsu's history, still stands here. During the military stationed period, power plants and rice mills were built in the village, bringing prosperity to Siwei Village. Though it later declined, with only a few households remaining today, many areas retain their original features as they haven't been fully restored. Siwei Village presents a simple appearance, nestling against Qiugui Mountain facing the coast. The view of fishing boats dotting the sea creates an enchanting scene, particularly stunning at sunset, earning it the name "West End Sunset."

The former Matsu Fisheries Research Institute, located at the mouth of Furongao in Siwei Village, was once the base for Matsu's aquaculture development, famous particularly for mussels. Through cultivation methods developed by the institute and favorable natural conditions, mussels became an essential delicacy on Matsu's dining tables - a must-try local flavor.  In 2018, the Fisheries Research Institute was transformed into the Blue Tears Ecological Museum, which now conducts research on blue tears (bioluminescent algae).

Furen Cafe: Reviving Romance in a Traditional Stone House

Located in the village, Furen Cafe occupies a traditional stone house with nearly 80 years of history, now converted into a guesthouse and café. Besides commanding beautiful mountain and sea views, the courtyard seating area is perfect for watching sunset clouds. Many visitors come here to unwind and enjoy peaceful moments by the sea.
