Located on the westernmost point of Nangan, Matsu, Siwei is also called Xiwei, literally meaning “the western tip.” A well-preserved old village, it is seen as Nangan’s treasure. Legendary figure Lin Yi-he’s office is still here in Xiwei. While the KMT army was here, a power plant and several rice mills were built, and this allowed Siwei to prosper. However, the golden days have passed and today Siwei is only inhabited by a few households. Many areas are even left unrestored. This in a way retains Siwei’s old-time charm. The simple village leans against Qiugui Mountain and faces the sea. At dusk, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. People hail it as the “Sunset of Xiwei.”
